True Detective Season 2 Release Date: Premiere Touted to Land January 2015

With "True Detective" Season 1 turning out to be a major hit, HBO was quick to renew the crime drama series for another season, and the latest rumors suggest that Season 2 could be released in January 2015.

If the rumors regarding Season 2 are any indication, it is also going to be a star studded show, possibly with Brad Pitt in a lead role.

Although Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, the two main characters of "True Detective" Season 1, which concluded after eight episodes, did a wonderful job in drawing a large viewership, producers have confirmed that the two lead stars from Season 1 will not be returning to the show. For weeks now it has been rumored that Brad Pitt is being considered as one of the main characters for the new season.

The rumor mill is agog with speculations that the other male lead actors may include Nicolas Cage, Edward Norton, Bryan Cranston, Samuel L. Jackson, Will Smith, or Anthony Hopkins.

In addition, producers of the show are said to be considering Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Sandra Bullock, and Selma Hayek to portray the female lead role.

According to some reports, Emma Stone, who is also being considered to play the female counterpart of Rust Cohle, has reportedly said that she would be interested to work on "True Detective," if she was given the opportunity.

In fact, the stupendous success of Season 1 has made the roles for Season 2 all the more coveted. If Brad Pitt agrees to feature in the show, it would simply be a matter of what his other commitments are, as he would be one of the top choices for the role.

Brad Pitt has previously worked with HBO when he came together with Ryan Murphy in 2013 to produce HBO's "The Normal Heart."

Playing a detective will not be anything new for Pitt either, as fans will remember him well for his role as a detective in "Se7en" alongside Morgan Freeman.

However, some insiders say that the rumors surrounding Pitt are too early to be of any great substance. They are also suggesting that the new detective duo may not necessarily both be men. As of now, there is no official word from HBO regarding the launch of Season 2 as well as the number of episodes it will include.
