YouTube’s Movie Venture News: Streaming Video Giant to Make Feature Films with Big Named Stars
YouTube is reputed to consistently support the content creators that feed its platform, and now, the streaming video giant is relying on its stars to make next big move. Recently, YouTube announced five new collaborations and one of these partnerships will be making full-length feature films this year.
However, Digital Trends reports that before the fans become too excited believing that possibly Martin Scorsese will be joining the Internet to make his films; they ought to know that the movies planned by YouTube will be made by its established stars. These feature films will be made in a joint venture with AwesomenessTV that was included into Dreamworks Animation last year.
Awesomeness TV CEO and founder Brian Robbins recently said, "We work with amazing creators to make great short form content on YouTube every day," adding, "We think the platform is really ready for long form, so now we will make movies that will star YouTubers and premiere on YouTube. We will turn YouTube stars into movie stars."
However, although it has been announced that YouTube personalities will be starring in these feature films, as of now, it is not clear what these feature films will actually look like. However, fans should not expect Channing Tatum to star in these movies. Prior to making these films available on different platforms, YouTube will premiere them worldwide. It appears that the popularity of the YouTube stars featuring in these films would largely help in marketing them.
For the uninitiated, Dreamworks Animation purchased AwesomenessTV for $33 million in 2013 and it has developed into one of the leading multi-channel networks for up-and-coming talent. Since Awesomeness TV currently has more than 112 million subscribers and 77 million views, it may seen to be a huge launching pad for YouTube stars.
In addition, YouTube has announced that it was collaborating with the Fine Brothers, Prank vs. Prank, Joey Graceffa, and Smosh, which are among the four of their top creators, to develop brand new and original content. Moreover, YouTube announced that it expects to release its first film this fall.
