The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox begin a three-game weekend set Friday night at 7:05 ET, culminating in a Sunday night Major League Baseball game.

If you're a fan of MLB history, it doesn't get any better than the Yanks and Sox. Though the division rivalry has settled down relative to years past [a la Pedro Martinez and Don Zimmer fight...classic], the fans seem to approach the series with the same intensity.

Jon Lester gets the start for the Red Sox tonight. Lester is 6-1, with a 3.34 ERA this year. Though Lester hasn't pitched well his last two games [ERA over 6] In Lester's last game he allowed 4 runs, 10 hits but still got the benefit of the no decision because of run support from the Red Sox lineup.

However, the Red Sox lineup did show signs of slowing down mid-week against the Phillies [only 4 runs combined during Tuesday and Wednesday games]. Lester could find himself in trouble if he gets behind early in the game.

Yankees starter C.C. Sabathia is having the same issues. Though 4-4, with a 3.96 ERA this season, Sabathia's current form is in trouble. Sabathia is 0-2 in his last 5 starts with an ERA just under 5. Sabathia's allowed 11 home runs in fewer than 75 innings pitches. He's currently working on his mechanics to figure out why his velocity to a sudden drop.

The Red Sox are visiting New York to take on the Yankees at 7:05 ET
