New York vs. New York: The Battle of the Subway series.

Tonight's the New York Mets host the New York Yankees in what's sure to be an exciting series. Though the Mets season hasn't exactly been going according to plan, they always find a way to keep up with their inner city rivals, the Yankees.

Plagued with injuries, the Yankees have somehow found a way to go 30-19 halfway to the All-Star break. Though they've gotten off to a terrific start, the Yanks still need to find a way to win on the road. Coming off losing two out of three to division rivals, the Tampa Bay Rays, the Mets could be the remedy the Yankees need.

Though the Mets are 11 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East, they aren't backing down to the challenge of playing their over-the-river rivals.

"Usually (the Yankees) are one of the premier teams in baseball, so I guess it's a good measuring stick as far trying to win a series against those guys, or beat those guys," according to Mets third baseman David Wright.

Starting on the mound for the Mets is lefty Jonathon Niese (3-5, 4.80). Niese has been struggling lately giving up 5 of his last 6 decisions and an ERA of 5.40 in his last seven games. It's Niese's effectiveness against the Yankees that's giving him the Game 1 start. In at least 6 innings, Niese has a lifetime 2.33 ERA against the Yankees and is 1-1.

Let's see if Niese has an answer for Robinson Cano who is 4-9 lifetime against the pitcher. He's hit 4 homeruns and 10 RBIs in 9 games against the Mets as well.
