Xbox One Outsells PS4 and Wii U to Close Out 2013

Xbox One was the best selling console in the U.S. for the month of December according NPD Group Data research.

The data indicated that the console sold around 908,000 units last month. Microsoft made their numbers public, but Sony did not, reported Polygon.

"PlayStation 4 remains the cumulative leader for next gen console sales in the U.S. since the launch on November 15. We sold every PS4 available at retail in the U.S. and were out of stock in December due to overwhelming consumer demand," said Sony in a statement.

However, according to the data, the highest selling console for the year in the U.S. was the Nintendo 3DS, which also had four games hit the one million plus mark. The company did not reveal numbers for the Wii U, but reports indicate December 2013 was their best month.

NPD reported the highest selling games of the holiday season were Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and Just Dance with GTA 5 leading the charge for top sold of 2013.

Xbox 360 sold over 643,000 units as well putting the combined Microsoft consoles at $1.39 billion in revenue, reported Polygon.

Both the PS4 and Xbox One sold over one million consoles in their first day, with PS4 opening up in only the U.S. and Xbox One launching in 22 countries. By the new year Sony had sold over 4.2 million consoles and Microsoft moved over 3 million.
