Xbox One vs PS4 News, Rumors: Microsoft May Let Gamers Emulate 360 Titles as Company Looks to Compete with Sony
Gaming giant Microsoft just announced that the company will attempt to allow Xbox One to play Xbox 360 games after Sony announced they will also make PS4 backwards compatible with the help of the Gaikai company. Microsoft's development lead Frank Savage answered a person's question at the recent Microsoft's Build developer conference.
"There are, but we're not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately. It turns out to be hard to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the X86 stuff. So there's nothing to announce, but I would love to see it myself," said Savage at the event.
Like the Xbox One, the PS4 is not backward compatible with the previous Sony gaming consoles. Last year, Dave Perry (the creator of the streaming network Gaikai) revealed in a previous interview about attempting to make the next gen console compatible with their other gaming systems.
"(Sony is) exploring some very unique opportunities, with the long term vision of making PlayStation 3 games ubiquitous on any device," said Perry to Polygon back in February 2013. "The technology is so advanced that someday we could easily PS1, PS2, PS3 and the PS Mobile games on any device, including the PlayStation 4."
Perry further expressed his reason for trying to make popular Sony games for previous Playstation videogames available on the PS4.
"This is an investment into the millions of loyal Playstation gamers across the world who would love to have all the past, present and future games at their fingertips," said Perry to Polygon in the same interview. "With Gaikai in the PlayStation Store, you'll be able to instantly experience anything you want."
In the battle for video games supremacy, Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4 are fighting for consumers's money in the next-gen war between the gaming giants. The Microsoft Xbox One was released in multiple markets including the North America on November 22, 2013. The Sony PlayStation 4 debuted in the US on November 15 2013.
