Xbox One August Update Brings 3-D Blu-Ray Support: SmartGlass App Game Purchases, No More Pesky Notifications
Gaming consoles have come a long way since the retro era of 8-bit and 16-bit video game systems. As early as the Playstation 2, the capability to play movies and music on a video game console is something currently standard.
More and more added features are present with each and every new generation of gaming consoles. Pretty soon, we might see consoles performing tasks that only desktop PCs could previously do.
For movie enthusiasts who double as gamers might have two devices plugged in to their TV; one for playing games and the other for viewing movies. Consoles nowadays have the capability to play DVDs, eliminating the need to have standalone DVD players.
The Xbox One is pushing that capability one step further by introducing 3D Blu-Ray support. Users with the console, a 3DTV and 3D Blu-Ray type movies will surely enjoy this technological breakthrough. However, the news gets better, as additional changes to the Xbox One are also in motion.
The new upgrade will also include the capability to purchase games via a mobile device with the SmartGlass app. Downloading the games on Xbox.com can also be done with the console on low-power mode.
Mostly, these updates stem from user feedback and Microsoft's way of trying to fix problems that most owners have trouble with. One such problem is the wireless controllers running out of energy without any warnings. Thus, Microsoft has made the console notify the user when the controllers are running low on power.
When watching a movie through the Xbox One, the last thing you'll want to see are pesky notifications popping up. The update will enable users to disable notifications temporarily for a distraction-free movie experience.
Loads of other updates are queued up to arrive on the Xbox One. It would seem that Microsoft is working hard to deliver the best user experience it can offer to Xbox owners.
