Microsoft Xbox One Hits 1 Million Sales in First 24 Hour Period

Move over Playstation 4, Xbox One is here to stay! The Playstation 4 made headlines earlier this month when the Sony console sold over 1 million devices in the first 24 hours of its availability. Last week, the Xbox One went on sale and matched Sony's PS4 by selling a million consoles as well. So far, it is hard to say which console will end up being the most preferred gaming device of the decade, but right now both are sold out until after Christmas.

Brian Blau, a research director for Gartner, told ABC News that the one million mark in the first day is very respectable. He said, "One million isn't a lot in the lifetime of a product that stretches out for five to seven years. It'll be months and years to come before we see which console the game players are really favoring."

So far there hasn't been a massive PR incident with the Xbox One release. The PS4 suffered from the Blue Light of Death on a very small percentage of the new consoles, but considering how many were affected up against how many were sold the number was very small. The Xbox One has received a few reports that the disc drive is broken and is unable to play games or movies.

Blau went on to talk about the problems with the new consoles right out of the box. He said, "I spoke with other analysts and when you're talking about PC-like things, with brand new hardware and architecture, these errors shouldn't be unexpected. Over time, the companies will fix these issues and change their manufacturing processes to compensate for them."
