‘X-Men Apocalypse’ Release Date, Plot Spoilers: Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler to Return

Following the success of 'X-Men Days of Future Past', the mutants are ready to hit the big screen once more in 'X-Men Apocalypse' which set to premiere on May 27, 2016. However, this time around, the movie will be set in an entirely different timeline, which makes it possible to bring back all the original characters including Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm, and Nightcrawler.

In 'Days of Future Past', Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Storm (Halle Berry), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), and Magneto (Ian McKellen) among other surviving mutants are faced with a foreboding war against the Sentinels. These robots are the outcome of years of experiments for the new age of weapons of mass destruction founded by Dr. Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage).

With the upcoming film, the mutants are set in the year 200 where all of the students from Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters are still alive. Though the plot for 'X-Men Apocalypse' has yet to be finalized, director Bryan Singer confirms that one of the highlights will focus on a new super villain called Apocalypse.

"You won't feel at the end of the movie that it set up Apocalypse. What it does is it sets up possibilities. But what we'll discover in Apocalypse is that events in this movie made that happen. Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You're dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?" Singer told Entertainment Weekly.

X-Men history proposes that Apocalypse, born in Egypt, is the first ever human to mutate the "x" gene. He was born with "gray purple skin, considered a freak and abandoned" by his loved ones. However, he eventually sought refuge with a tribe called Sandstormers who gave him the name En Sabah Nur, which means "The First One."

Meanwhile, there is speculation that 'X-Men: Apocalypse' could be the Wolverine's last appearance though his probable exit from the film franchise is going to be dark and disturbing. He will also use, for the first time, the iconic yellow costume featured in comics.
