'X-Men Apocalypse' Goes 'Biblical' Route? Actor James McAvoy Says Upcoming Film will Discuss 'The Origins of the Species' (VIDEO)
Now that "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is in theaters James McAvoy, who plays the younger professor Xavier, has revealed the next installment of the franchise, "X-Men: Apocalypse," will be "Biblical."
During a red carpet interview with MTV News at a screening of "X-Men," McAvoy was asked how he thought the next film could possibly top the box office success of "X-Men: Days of Future Past." The actor disclosed that "Apocalypse" will address the creation of mankind.
"What I think is really epic about 'Apocalypse' - bearing in mind I have had no communication with [writer] Simon [Kinberg] about what he's thinking - is the fact that it seems to be going kind of biblical. It seems to be going back to the origins of the species," he excitingly revealed.
In the same red-carpet interview "X-Men" producer and writer Simon Kinberg said the upcoming film would have a larger appeal.
"One of the things we did with 'Days of Future Past' is it's a time travel movie, and with 'Apocalypse,' it's a global disaster movie," he told MTV. "It has some of the sort of [famed disaster film creator] Roland Emmerich scope and scale to it that you haven't really seen in this kind of comic book movie."
Kinberg also hinted the new "X-Men" might again feature more of the younger versions of the X-Men.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" opens in theaters on Memorial Day weekend, May 27, 2016. "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is in theaters now.
Movies with Biblical themes have done exceptionally well at the box office so far in 2014. "Noah" brought in over $100 million, and independent film "God's Not Dead" earned almost $60 million. "Heaven is for Real" brought in over $86 million to date.
