‘World Of Warcraft’ In-Game Pet Proceeds to Help Fight Ebola

Blizzard's 'World of Warcraft' will be releasing its newest in-game pet companion, Argi, on December 3, and the proceeds of the sales of the pet will go to the American Red Cross in its efforts to combat the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

According to Blizzard, 100 percent of the "adoption fee" of $10 paid for Argi for the entire month of December will benefit the Red Cross.

Argi, a bluish ram-like creature, that will help a player "savage lands of Draenor, climbing, swimming, and running wherever you go," will be sold on Battle.net Shop until December 31.

Blizzards move in donating the sales of an in-game pet for charity was not a first for the company. In 2013, half of the sales of the Alterac Brew Pup virtual pet, which is sold for $10, went to Make-A-Wish Foundation, which is a US-based charity that grants the wishes of terminally ill children.

Additionally, Blizzard also donated the proceeds from the sales of the virtual pet, Cenarion Hatchling, to the victims of the 2011 killer Tsunami in Japan.

The virtual pets sold for 'World of Warcraft' are also known as companions. They are both an accessory and a part of the game.

Companions follow the user's character as it travels in Azeroth, but they are not allowed to join in the fight.

However, online players can enter Pet Battles, where they can fight companions of other characters.

Every win in the Pet Battles will strengthen a companion and can lead to earning a "pet charm," which can be exchanged for game items, such as pet treats or collars.

Meanwhile, Blizzard originally revealed that pet breeding will be available for the upcoming expansion, 'World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor', but the feature was reportedly removed.
