World Cup 2014 Players Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Tim Howard Express Their Faith in Jesus Christ

At the 2014 FIFA World Cup, there are several superstar athletes who are not ashamed about expressing their Christian faith and revealing what God has done for them in their careers and personal lives.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

Portugal and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his faith in God on numerous occasions.

"I collect crucifix necklaces - it's because of my relationship with God. I always had a gift. I was shown the skills and I am a fantastic footballer but I do believe God gave me the gift," said Ronaldo according to in a report by The Hollowverse. "I am religious, in my own way, but not as much as [Brazilian superstar Ricardo] Kaká for example."

Wayne Rooney (England)

Like Ronaldo, England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is also a Catholic, who has previously testified his faith in God.

"I pray to God, of course. I believe in God. I pray in the physio room. I go in after my warm-up. I basically spend a few minutes in there on my own," said Rooney to talkSPORT Radio previously. "I don't pray to help me score goals. I pray for the health of me and everyone on the pitch. It is something I have always done. I pray at night. I pray for my family and friends and for the health of everyone I love."

Daniel Sturridge (England)

Daniel Sturridge is a devout Christian who plays for Liverpool and the English national team who recently went on social media to express, "Not ashamed to tell the world. I'm blessed and I thank God for all that has come my way. Giving God the glory always," wrote Sturridge on Twitter on April 10.

Tim Howard (United States)

United States national team (and Everton) goalie Tim Howard revealed in an interview how his Christian grandmother was the first person to lead him to Jesus Christ when he was dealing with undiagnosed Tourette's syndrome as a little boy.

"Nana's sense of peace was so powerful because it came from her faith in the Lord. Through her, God revealed His love for me as well. It wasn't long before I was following in her footsteps. I wanted the same kind of faith and peace she had, and that is exactly what God gave me," said Howard in his testimony to the CRU Ministries' organization Athletes in Action in 2006. "That said; living with Tourette's is not easy. But God has blessed me with the gift of athleticism as well...He has done some powerful things in my life through the combination of these 2 gifts. He also has shown me ways to use my position as a professional athlete to encourage others with Tourette's syndrome."

Howard further expressed his thoughts in the article about his trust and faith in Jesus Christ.

"Today, I am blessed to be living a dream. And yet, if it all went away tomorrow, I know I would still have peace. That probably sounds crazy to most people, but that's the kind of peace Christ gives. It is rooted in His love, and it surpasses all understanding," said Howard. "You can experience this same sense of love and peace, too. All you have to do is ask for it."
