Ladies figure skating short program live stream free: Watch Yuna Kim vs Julia Lipnitskaia Online (NBC Schedule, Feb. 19)
The eagerly anticipated skating match up between Yuna Kim and Julia Lipnitskaia will take place on Wednesday with the pair going up against one another as well as 30 other exhaustively trained ice skating Olympians.
Yuna Kim, the South Korean, known to many as "Queen Yuna," could be seen earlier this week practicing her routine in the Sochi Ice Palace.
A reporter for the Chicago Tribune reported: "Dressed in black tights and a black shirt, [Yuna Kim] landed several huge triple lutz jumps, some in combination with the triple toe loop, had successful attempts at all her other jumps and ran through most of her short program to 'Send in the Clowns'"
Kim seems unfased by the enormous amount of pressure from the media and fans in her attempt to win a second consecutive Winter Olympics Gold medal for this category. "I am not trying my best because it is the Olympics," Kim said. "I try my best always. The most important thing about today's practice was getting used to the ice and continuing what I did in Korea."
Julia Lipnitskaia from Russia, is an overnight sensation who led the Russians to victory in the Team Skate competition. She placed first in both the Free and Short Program making her the youngest Olympic gold medalist in women's figure skating history.
At the age of 15, few predicted her to garner such a historic win, but Litpinskaia's debut was met with immediate acclaim as well as her name being elevated to the status of national hero in her native Russia.
In an interview with Reuters, Tamara Moskvina, a well-known Russian skating coach, said about Lipnitskaia: "She is a fresh name, light-footed, beautiful. She burst on to the Olympic podium completely deservedly but also completely unexpectedly."
If all goes well the two will face off this Wednesday at 10 a.m. ET.
