'Winds of Winter' Release Date: 6th Addition to 'A Song of Ice and Fire' Series, Game of Thrones Book 6

Statistics and speculation have narrowed down the general date of when fans of George R.R. Martin's work can expect his new book, Winds of Winter.

While there is no specific release date, analysts have concluded a estimated range for the book's release. Based on the information compiled and assessed, the book will likely launch in 2017.

All this, provided that George R.R Martin maintain the same writing pace as JK Rowling (Author of Harry Potter), as shown in this graph from Washington Post.

The website, Five Thirty Eight has put forward their ideas about the release date and the pace at which it is being written. According to them, Wind of Winter would be released in August of this year if Martin writes at a rate of 350 world daily, February of next year at 300 word daily, and October 2015 if the average sits at a daily 250 words.

Five Thirty Eight classifies this line of thinking as "Martinology", which also considers the other books and word counts in A Song of Ice and Fire series.

The following list compares the existing and published books in the series:

- A Dance of Dragons - 422,000 words

- A Feast for Crows - 300,000 words

- A Storm of Swords - 424,000 words

- Clash of Kings - 326,000 words

- Game of Thrones - 298,000 words

- Winds of Winter - 1,500 pages (Current Estimate)

The only definitive information that can be provided about Winds of Winter, is that in October 2012, the author had confirmed that only 400 pages were written. Since then, an estimate stands at 1,500 current pages.

Statistics can provide relief, hope, or closure to anxious and anticipating fans, but Winds of Winter will only release whenever the author pleases.
