'Warcraft' director Duncan Jones discussed the plot and the characters of the upcoming movie at the recently held BlizzCon 2014 event. The annual convention was complete this year with Orc statues and Stormwind guards clad in full armor.

IGN Games reports that Jones revealed to the audience that he took delight in playing 'Warcraft' games as a youngster. Therefore, when he came to learn about Sam Raimi's plans to make a movie about the popular Blizzard Entertainment dark fantasy video game, he seized the opportunity to direct it.

Jones also described the details regarding how closely he worked with Blizzard Senior Vice-President Chris Metzen, who is also the co-writer of the 'Warcraft' movie, which is slated for a March 11, 2016 release.

When asked about the inspiration to develop a movie plot based on the video game series, Jones said that they decided to create a storyline from the point where the feud between the Orcs and humans started.

Jones revealed that in the original script, the Orcs looked bad, adding that it was important to the production team that both sides garner on viewer sympathy. According to him, Metzen was on board with the concept, Lothar versus Durotan. Jones described the movie as being "'Avatar' and 'Lord of the Rings' at the same time."

The director further informed the audience that they will be seeing classic 'Warcraft' characters in the movie and the actors who will portray the characters include Travis Fimmel (Lothar, the Alliance lead), Ben Foster (Medivh, an Alliance mage), Dominic Cooper (King Llane of the Alliance), Ben Schnetzer (Khadgar of the Alliance) and Paula Patton (Garona).

'Warcraft' the movie will also feature Toby Kebbell (Durotan, the Horde lead), Rob Kazinsky (Orgrim, Durotan's right-hand mand), Daniel Wu (Gul'Dan of the Horde) and Clancy Brown (Blackhand the Destroyer).

However, as the movie begins with the start of the human and Orc feud, it will not include Thrall or Arthas - the two legendary characters from the video game franchise.
