'The Walking Dead' Season 6 Renewed Ahead of Season 5 Premiere: AMC Orders More Episodes & Spin-off Series
As 'The Walking Dead' Season 5 is about to air its premiere episode on October 12, AMC has announced that they plan on taking the zombie-drama series into a Season 6. Additionally, the network is looking to produce a spin-off, or a companion series, but that has not yet been titled.
AMC President Charlie Collier made the announcement, "We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of 'The Walking Dead' with fans around the globe" adding, "In advance of Sunday's season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series."
He went on to say, "Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There's plenty more 'Dead' ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort ."
On that note, Executive Producer of 'The Walking Dead' Scott Gimple is set to lead the series into its sixth season. However, there has been no announcement about how many episodes fans can expect to see in Season 6.
Stepping back to Charlie Collier, he went on to talk about a spin-off series, he said, "Almost from the beginning of 'The Walking Dead' on AMC, fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world. In fact, beyond requests for zombie cameos, it's the question I get asked the most."
His statement ended with, "Obviously, we all take our stewardship of the original franchise incredibly seriously and we, along with Robert, Gale, David and now Dave, are all proceeding with extreme care in order to ensure that we are offering fans something truly compelling, engaging and distinct. We're thrilled to be taking this next step with these remarkable partners."
Breaking into some rumors about the upcoming spin-off that's scheduled to film its pilot in late 2014, the new series will carry a different tone than the original.
Apparently, the new spin-off is going to depict the events that lead up to the zombie outbreak, it won't be a series about another group of survivors.
However, these rumors have not been confirmed as of yet, so fans of 'The Walking Dead' will have to wait for more news about the spin-off series.
