'The Walking Dead' Season 4 Spoilers: The Governor Makes Final Stand Against Rick and the Prison in Episode 8 "Too Far Gone" [Trailer]
The last two episodes of The Walking Dead Season 4 have showed the Governor [David Morrissey] in a light we've had yet to see him in since he was first introduced in Season 3. Two weeks ago, his last two Woodbury comrades, Martinez and Shumpert, had abandoned a disheveled Governor. Wandering roughly 3-6 months, had all but given up until he spots a young blonde girl that resembles his late daughter in an apartment window in a small Georgia town.
Showing his sensitive side, the Governor becomes the group [which consists of the young girl Megan, her mother Alicia, aunt Tara and dying grandfather] de facto protector. Risking his own life he takes the group away from the small town to find a better life only to be captured in one of Martinez' walker pits.
Long story short, the Governor sees his new family is in trouble so decides to kill Martinez knowing he is the only one who can lead the group, especially his new family, to safety.
But where will the Governor go? He knows their current camp is a vulnerable position so he goes out searching for the prison. Has the entire first half of Season 4 just been a lead up to a duel between the Governor's new crew and Rick's weak prison gang?
"The first five [season-four episodes] were in no way a lead up to [a match-up between] Rick and the Governor," explains Season 4 showrunner Scott Gimple. "We mentioned the Governor a bit but not much. He appears at the end of five but to finish the story we wanted to tell. This is a different story. Without even getting into the Governor and what he's doing in the finale, this isn't about a couple of guys lining up head-to-head. There's a Rick story in the first five threaded throughout, and then there are a lot of character stories within that. And [episodes] six and seven are very much a story about the Governor, which is like the flip side of episode five, where at the end of that episode we saw the Governor, at the end of seven, the Governor sees the prison."
Don't miss The Walking Dead Season 4 midpoint finale Sunday night at 9 PM ET on AMC.
