'The Voice' Season 4: Judges Usher and Shakira Episode 9 Recap

On Monday night's episode of The Voice on NBC the battle rounds continued. Usher's team was first to duke it out. Voice hopeful and Lancaster, California native Jessica Childress, 25, and 19-year old Atlanta hometown hero Vedo sang "Locked Out of Heaven" by Bruno Mars. There to mentor the amateurs were Voice judge and Grammy award winner Pharell Williams.

At first Childress felt the key of the song was a little higher than she felt comfortable singing. Pharrell told her to relax and pushed onward with the session.

Luckily for Usher both Childress and Vedo nailed the song.

"I just felt so good throughout it," Shakira said.

Unfortunately it's a battle round and somebody has to go home.

"I'm feeling pretty bad for Usher right now," Shelton added.

Though Childress, a former PR advisor who left her job to compete on season 4 of The Voice, had a great performance, Usher opted for Vedo.

Shakira and mentor Joel Madden [Good Charlotte] chose Lady Gaga's "You and I" for their recruits to sing.

Shakira's 24 year olds didn't fare as well in the practice sessions. Fayetteville, NC representative Luke Edgemon and Monique Abbadie from Miami, FL had some trouble in the beginning. It seemed the two were singing a bit over each other.

Shakira advised the two singers to try and be a little more comfortable.

"Don't step on each other's toes," she said. "Remember it's a battle but you need to support each other as well."

The performance was a different story. Though a little shaky at first both Edgemon and Abbadie eventually got in the swing of things. Ultimately Shakira chose Abbadie.

Tune in tonight as the battle rounds continue on season 4 of The Voice.
