The Voice 2013 Contestants: Season 4 Episode Recap, The Top 8 Perform
The Voice 2013 Contestants came prepared to win. If you haven't seen the most recent episode of NBC's "The Voice", I suggest you stop reading now. Obviously, spoilers ahead.
Last night's was The Voice's first really surprising elimination. Seeming front-runners Sarah Simmons and Judith Hill were eliminated in a surprise night. The "surprise elimination" is usually a trope looked forward to by reality TV watchers, but this one wasn't as well received. Both Hill and Simmons were fan favorites and seemed poised for greatness. It was truly shocking to see not one, but both go home. After that, I'll be honest: it was hard to focus.
Carson started the show by telling us that the night will be a night of special duets. The first "duet" was with Sheryl Crow and the Team Blake foursome (For the record, 4 + 1 = Not A Duet) on Crow's new single, "Easy." "Easy" is a mid-tempo jam that also totally showcases the smoothness of the group's group-voice. The crowd enjoyed it, but they would have much rather seen team coach Blake sing with his group, rather than Crow.
The judges were all unanimously undecided about the performance, offering neutral comments like "not playing it safe" and "don't know how America will react." Shakira puts out weird vibes towards her own team and song choices; the Blake/Adam banter reaches a new fever pitch; and Usher looks cool and wears glasses. Oh, Usher.
Hard left turn. Carson tells us that the country coach has kept up working on behalf of Oklahoma disaster relief. Tonight, NBC will air "Healing the Heartland," a benefit concert featuring Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan, Rascal Flatts, and more. The concert is partially the work of Blake. Also: "our partner" Starbucks donated $250,000 to OK Strong; also: you should donate money through Starbucks.
Overall, it was an entertaining night filled with more of what America has come to know and expect from NBC's The Voice. Tune in next week to see what happens next!
