Experience was the name of the game on Sunday night when the first-time playoff Memphis Grizzlies were beaten by veteran coach Gregg Popovich and his all-star San Antonio Spurs. San Antonio was in stunning form in game 1, getting great performances out of their top stars. Tony Parker finished with 20 points while Kawhi Leonard scored 18 points. The Grizzlies scored first on a Marc Gasol layup, but that would be the only time that they lead all game. The Spurs took over and never looked back, leading for the rest of the game. Memphis climbed back to within 6 of the former champions, but San Antonio quickly regained their composure after a timely time-out by Popovich and kept their foot on the gas for the remainder.

It was not the best night for any of the Memphis starters either. Zach Randolph, one of the team leaders, finished just 1-8 on the game, scoring only 2 points. They also could not defend the perimeter, as San Antonio finished 14 of 29 from 3 point range. In an interview with the Associated Press, Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins said after the game "We just didn't play well. It's not anything specific. It's just that we were running too fast, we missed some layups, we were taking bad shots and our defense was really awful. And the Spurs played well."

There isn't a level of panic in Memphis yet, as first game losses are nothing new to these Grizzlies. They have lost the opener in each of their playoff series this year, rallying in each to come back and win. But, these Spurs are known for their consistency and closing ability. It will be very interesting to see what happens in game 2, this Tuesday night in San Antonio.
