Verizon Nexus 6 Release Date Rumors: March 12 Launch Likely, Device May Come with Android 5.1 Lollipop

While it has already been a few months since Google launched the Motorola-made Nexus 6 smartphone, until now, the device does not come in a Verizon variant. However, it seems that subscribers to Verizon services will be able get hold of the popular phablet soon.

Latin Post reports that right at the time of the Nexus 6 launch, it was announced that all the four major U.S. carriers, including Verizon, would be selling the device. While the other three carriers - AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint - have been offering the device from their stores as well as through their plans, it seemed that Verizon was not.

Quoting an anonymous Verizon employee, a recent report in Phone Arena says that Verizon stores have already started receiving promotional materials for the Nexus 6. The unidentified Verizon employee also provided Phone Arena with some photographic evidence. According to the report, the packaging just reads "VZW Merchandising Material" and "Nexus 6 Launch." As of now, no further details have been provided.

What has also irked the Verizon customers is a somewhat sporadic inventory of the Nexus 6, which has made it difficult for them to even buy an unlocked model.

Earlier this year Patrick Pichette, Google Chief Financial Officier, said, "While the Nexus 6 was well received as a new phone, we had real issues and were unable to secure sufficient inventory to meet the demand that we had forecast."

Now, the question is as to when the Nexus 6 will actually be available through Verizon. Provided the promotional material is genuine (as Verizon has yet to confirm the existence of a Nexus 6 launch campaign), customers of this U.S. carrier can at least assume that Verizon hasn't entirely scrapped its plans to sell the Nexus 6 entirely, despite the inordinate delay.

Meanwhile, several reports suggest that the Nexus 6 may be made available through Verizon from March 12, as the above mentioned promotional materials are set to go up March 11. Moreover, it is expected that when the Nexus 6 does release on Verizon, the device will come with Android 5.1 Lollipop onboard along with an in-built VoLTE support.
