Recently, show runner Julia Plec of 'Vampire Diaries' revealed, on July 26 at Comic-Con, a new set of characters ready to join the hit TV series. At the same time, rumors about the upcoming season's plot have surfaced on various media outlets.

In the show's season finale last month, it was revealed that Elena (played by Nina Dobrev) is once again forced to face the dreadful experience of losing someone close to her heart. Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Elena's true love, and the witch Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham), who also happens to be her best friend, died in a tragic collapse of the 'other side'- a supernatural purgatory of some sorts.

While Plec assured concerned 'Vampire Diaries' fans about Damon and Bonnie's return to the show in the upcoming installment, she did not say in what form or state they'd be in.

Following the event, Plec divulged that the 'Vampire Diaries' latest season would be generally about coping and starting anew. In line with these themes, the Vampire series' production has confirmed the comeback of Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis) in the supernatural drama series.

Joining Saltzman in the new regular's lineup is Enzo (Michael Malarkey), a recurring guest character in the show's last few seasons.

During the San Diego Comic-Con event, fans of the hit series were able to watch an amusing 6-minute clip that showed Damon and Bonnie pleading with their fans. The comical clip went over well as countless fans found it enjoyable.

The latest 'Vampire Diaries' season is set to premiere on October 2nd on the CW network.
