Before the newest episode of "The Vampire Diaries" airs on the CW network tonight, fans of the show are worried that one of the series regular characters might be killed off in next month's season finale. According to a recent report, the anti-hero vampire Damon Salvatore (played by actor Ian Somerhalder) may bite the dust when the last episode of the season will broadcasts on May 15.

"There's quite a lot of suffering and celebration in the last two episodes," said series co-creator Julie Plec to Eonline. "Because of Markos' efforts to make the town of Mystic Falls a magic-free zone and the imminent destruction of the Other Side, lots of lives are in jeopardy and Damon has to, as he says, 'strap on his hero hair.'"

Tonight's episode is called "Man on Fire," and in it Elena Gilbert (played by actress Nina Dobrev) and Damon's noble brother Stefan Salvatore (played by Paul Wesley) relationship blossoms for real unlike last week's alternate reality episode. Enzo (played by Michael Malarkey) will try to kill Stefan because he thinks Stefan killed a woman he loved in the 1960's.

"You ready to talk about what you did to the love of my life?" said Enzo to Stefan in the trailer for tonight's episode. "Someone tore her head right off her body."

Series regular Paul Wesley believes the upcoming Season 5 Finale will change the landscape of Mystic Falls, Virginia forever.

"(The finale) definitely establishes new parameters in the environment we'll be shooting in Season 6," said Wesley to TV Guide. "They reset things in a way, and the writers have the ability to now change the circumstances and locations of where the show takes place."

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 5 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on The CW network. The Season finale of 'The Vampire Diaries' will air on May 15, 2014.
