USA will go toe-to-toe against Belgium this Tuesday at the Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador, Brazil. The game begins at 4:00 p.m. ET and can be watched online through live stream via the link provided below (free for subscribers).
USA enters the "Round of 16" stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup after finishing in second place in Group G with four points. USA was defeated by group leader Germany by 1-0 when German superstar Thomas Müller scored the lone goal in their last match of the first round of the tournament on Thursday. USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann knows must defeat Belgium in order to advance to the next round.
"It's a great achievement to get out of this group and into the knockout rounds. It was a difficult game, both physically and mentally, because the knowledge that a draw would be enough was always at the back of our minds. We were a bit too nervous and showed them too much respect at the start but we calmed down as the match wore on. We've got a great team and we put in a superb performance. We could have created a few more chances but overall I'm satisfied. It was one of the most difficult groups at the tournament. Ghana and Portugal are good teams and Germany are one of the favorites to win the title. We're still learning and growing as a team. Now everything starts from scratch again because the knockout rounds are very different," said Klinsmann to reporters.
The Belgian national team is looking to beat the US squad when the two sides face off on July 1. Belgium finished in first place in the Group H standings with nine points after beating Algeria, Russia and Korea respectively at the World Cup. Belgium recently defeated the Korea Republic by 1-0 in their final match on June 26.
"After scoring, I wanted to share my indescribable joy with our supporters. We feel like they're really behind us, and that's important for the squad. Finishing top of the group and pulling off a late win with ten men is also a real source of satisfaction," said Belgian team captain Jan Vertonghen to reporters after he scored the only goal of the game versus Korea.
The game starts at 4 p.m. ET and can be watched on TV on the ESPN network or online through live stream by clicking here.
