US Immigration Reform News 2014: Perry Slams Obama For Missed Visit
US Immigration Reform has always been a hot button issue, and recently President Obama has said that America's immigration system is "broken." This leads outlets like the American Immigration Council to push for an effective immigration system that everyone can benefit from.
According to history, the first immigrants arrived on American soil in the 1600's, most of them Englishmen who traveled all the way from Europe. Today, both legal and illegal US immigrants stem from all over the world.
Over the course of time, the need for reform in the immigration policies of the United States has become increasingly fundamental, in the same manner as matters of national security has become increasingly important.
US President Barack Obama details the reforms that he feels are needed on the White House's official website.
The information found on the website considers welcoming immigrants and how the nation can adapt a system that contributes to the US economical growth, among other things. Currently, the US has 11 million undocumented immigrants, which gives reason to motions and actions from government officials
Recently, Texas Governor Rick Perry shunned President Obama for failing to visit border facilities in Texas which are overwhelmed by a large number of undocumented children. The President defended his decision by calling the supposed visit more of a "photo op" and added that he is well aware of the current situation and the ongoing problems at the said government facility.
The much needed reform in the US immigration policies have been at the center of debate and disagreement over the years between politicians and political parties, slowing down any chance of an amicable agreement.
Although many disagree on the type of reforms that need to be done, most agree that some change needs to happen
In an effort to call for immigration reforms as well as promote awareness on the issue, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg launched fwd.us. It is a website solely dedicated to provide information about the essential changes that the organization deems necessary, and encourages users to sign an online petition that aims to call for these changes.
