'UnREAL' Season 2 Spoilers, Cast News: The Show To Feature A Black Suitor
Lifetime's "UnREAL" will be having its second season and it promises to push its story further.
According to EW, the show will feature a black suitor. That is something that the reality show "The Bachelor" hasn't done yet. The show will be dealing with racial issues and concerns in the upcoming season, something that fans should all watch out for.
Showrunner, Sarah Gertrude Shapiro told EW that while the first season was about a princess' fantasy of being rescued by her prince charming, the second season would explore "race and masculinity."
"That is a big shift for us. It's still Everlasting, but with a different suitor, and the suitor is going to be black, so [we're] exploring the race politics of that," Shapiro said. She added that we will be seeing the "intersection of the men's rights movement and feminism."
The 37-year-old Shapiro also said that she's worried about making a show that involves race in front and behind the cameras. She said that she's a Jewish white girl "breaking a story about race."
"We have people of color on our staff, and they've definitely taken a very, very primary role in talking about a lot of these things, but yeah, it's terrifying," she said. "I think you should be worried about us making a show about race, I think you should also be very, very worried about Rachel's mental health, like super concerned about what it's like when Rachel actually falls in love for real."
For cast member Constance Zimmer, she said that they are not afraid to do anything as they tackle theses sensitive issues. According to Christian Today, she actually feels even more excited to go "darker" and "a little bit further" compared to the previous season.
