‘Unbroken’ Trailer Video Released: Angelina Jolie Film Tells Tale of World War 2 Hero
The first official trailer for "Unbroken' has been released, five months after wrapping its Australian shoot, it's directed by Angelina Jolie and stars English actor Jack O'Connell, the film is based on the true story of World War II hero Louis Zamperini.
Zamperini, an Olympian runner who joined the Air Force in 1941 and became stranded on a raft for 47 days after his plane was shot down. He survived the ordeal, only to be captured by the Japanese.
The trailer begins with the fateful flight, before flashbacks of Zamperini's childhood and tracking his life"”showing his training for the Olympics, enlisting in the army, the plane crash, and a glimpse of the torture that he had to endure in the Japanese Prisoner of War camp.
"Unbroken' is the second film that Jolie has directed after her 2011 directorial debut with 'In The Land of Blood and Honey'. The movie was filmed in Australia in spots including Sydney's Cockatoo Island and Pitt Street, and also stars Jai Courtney and Garrett Hedlund.
The trailer debuts just over a week after Zamperini's death on July 2 at the age of 97.
In a statement, Jolie paid tribute to the Olympian and war hero, describing his passing as "a loss impossible to describe."
"We are all so grateful for how enriched our lives are for having known him. We will miss him terribly," said Jolie.
"Unbroken' is set for release in cinemas on January 2015.
