UFC 172 Unlikely to Cause Any Upsets as Jon Jones Fights Glover Teixeira (Start Time, Watch Online, Fight Card)

Jon Jones (19-1), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion, will be defending his title against Glover Teixeira (22-2) at the Baltimore Arena, Maryland, in the UFC 172 pay-per-view marquee fight on Saturday.

Currently, Jones is the MMA king and has been predicted as the favorite against Teixeira, whose talent is yet to be fully proven at the highest level. While many fans are not familiar with this Brazilian mixed martial artist, he has won 20 fights in a row and, hence, cannot be scoffed at.

In another Main Card UFC 172 encounter, Phil Davis will endeavor to retain his position in the division hierarchy against Anthony Johnson, known for his dangerous style. In yet another encounter on the card, Luke Rockford, former Strikeforce middleweight champion, will fight against Tim Boestsch in an attempt to move ahead in clinching a 185-pound title.

Though there are a number of other fights, let's focus on the marquee event.

While the odds are in favor of Jones, who is undoubtedly the best MMA fighter, some pundits believe it is possible to overcome him. They argue that eventually all fighters lose and it greatly depends on their opponent. So will Teixeira be able to accomplish this feat and shock the UFC world?

Teixeira is definitely talented. What is more important is that he has not been defeated over the last nine years. However, his talents have neither been put under the highest tests during this period. In fact, a solitary win over the former cast member and winner of Spike TV's "The Ultimate Fighter: Team Nogueira vs. Team Mir" got him a spot in the title fight.

On the other hand, Jones won the title in March 2011 becoming the youngest champion in the history of UFC for two main reasons. First, Ryan Bader ranked No. 5 despite remaining undefeated, and, second, Rashad Evans pulled out of the "Shogun" Rua title fight after damaging his knee. These facilitated Jones' win.

Nevertheless, an upset seems to be unlikely. While Teixeira is known to possess the knack to land a one-hitter quitter when the opponent is within nine inches from him, Jones too is aware of this and will definitely maintain a safe distance waiting for Teixeira to become frustrated and move in. It is then, Jones will employ his talents in Greco-Roman style to dump his opponent on the head and push him into oblivion.
