U2's Bono Proclaims Christian Faith in Interview: 'Jesus Christ Is My Way to Understand God' (VIDEO)
U2 lead singer Bono spoke about his Christian faith and how his current album would be received by the public in a recent interview. In addition, the legendary vocalist also talks about his viewpoints on Jesus Christ and his divine nature.
"[Who is Christ?] is a defining question for a Christian...you're not let off easily by saying a great thinker or philosopher...he went around saying he was the Messiah...he was crucified...because he said he was the son of God. He either was the son of God...or nuts... [and] I find it hard to accept that millions of lives... have felt their lives touched and inspired by some nut. I don't believe it," said Bono to RTE last year.
The singer (whose real name is Paul David Hewson) also revealed in the interview who does he pray to and why does he pray.
"The Person of Christ is my way to understand God. I pray to get to know the will of God, because then the prayers have more of a chance of coming true," said Bono to RTE back in 2013.
The 53-year-old Irish superstar also explains how he and his family prays to God.
"I mean, that's the thing about prayer," said Bono to RTE in the interview. "We don't do it in a very lofty way in our family... we pray with all our kids, we read the Scriptures... sometimes if we go to church on a Sunday, we'll go as [the service] has ended and we'll go in on our own as a family... and we'll pray, usually about people we know who are struggling with something, illness or whatever.
U2 was originally formed by Bono, The Edge, whose real name is David Evans, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. back in 1976. Bono also talked about how he and his "U2" band members were wondering if their iconic rock and roll band and their new music would be received in 2014.
"We were trying to figure out, 'Why would anyone want another U2 album?'" said Bono to BBC. "And then we said, 'Well, why would we want one?' There was some unfinished business. We felt like we were on the verge of irrelevance a lot in our lives. How you get through is to make stuff that's relevant to you and you have to make an honest account of what you're going through."
