'Twin Peaks' Release Date News: Nine Episode Limited Series [TRAILER VIDEO]

It's been almost 15 years since 'Twin Peaks' gained its raving fan base after ABC aired the pilot episode on April 8, 1990. However, new reports have confirmed that the show will be making a comeback, this time on the Showtime network.

What's exciting fans the most, is that the original writer and director will be taking on the limited television series. There will be nine episodes of the new 'Twin Peaks' which will be set more than twenty years after the events depicted in the original show's first two seasons.

It has been confirmed that Lynch and Frost will write and produce all nine episodes, as Lynch directs each and every one. What's more is that the new series will continue the story and lore of the original, with a view to satisfy all those rough conclusions in the first series.

In terms of which cast members fans can expect to see, or even see reprising their roles, there is no news as to who will star. However, rumor has it that Kyle MacLachlan will be returning to play the primary character in 'Twin Peaks', FBI Agent Dale Cooper.

Before the new series premieres, Showtime, in partnership with CBS, will air the first two seasons of 'Twin Peaks'. Not only will this refresh the fan bases' palette for the series, but it will also reel in new viewers who have never seen the original.

Many have already come to the conclusion that the new series was sprung, almost as a tribute, for 'Twin Peaks' 25th anniversary. This means that fans can expect to see the new series sometime in 2016.
