True Detective Season 2 Plot Spoilers, Cast Rumors: Series Creator Explains What to Expect in New Season
In a brand new interview, "True Detective" series creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto explained what viewers can expect to see in Season 2 of the hit HBO show.
"Right now we're working with three leads," said Pizzolatto on the "To the Best of Our Knowledge" radio show. "It takes place in California - not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California - and we're going to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one."
In Season 1, Matthew McConaughey (Detective Rustin Spencer "Rust" Cohle) and Woody Harrelson (Detective Martin Eric "Marty" Hart) starred as two cops trying to stop mass murders linked to Satanism in rural Louisiana.
Pizzolatto also spoke about the current progress of Season 2's scripts and the future cast members in the Neo-noir series.
"We've got the entire series broken out with a couple scripts," said Pizzolatto in reference to the upcoming season. "And we'll probably start casting in earnest in the coming months."
However, he did reveal in a previous interview that the upcoming season will "keep things strange."
"It's informed exactly one thing. It's that I realize I need to keep being strange. Don't play the next one straight," said Pizzolatto to HitFix. "Okay. This is really early, but I'll tell you [it's about] hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system."
Like Season 1, it is assumed that Season 2 of "True Detective" will return in January (2015). However, the official release date has not yet been announced yet, although latest rumors suggest that the cast for the new season will be clamped down by the end of June 2014.
