'True Blood' Season 7 Spoilers: HBO Confirmed Last Season / EP Brian Buckner Reveals Timeline Speed Up / June 2014 Premiere
Spoiler alert! Read with caution.
It's a sad day in True Blood news. Weeks after the cliffhanger Season 6 finale, HBO has announced Season 7 will be the series' last installment. HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo confirmed the news Tuesday.
"'True Blood' has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO," Lombardo said in an official statement. "Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey. Alan passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led our fantastic writers and crew in crafting a spectacular sixth season, and he will lead us through the seventh and final season of this amazing show. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show."
As was previously reported True Blood Season 7 would be 10 episodes long. Executive producer Brian Buckner hinted at the idea of jumping ahead in time during the season to help tie up some loose plot ends. How far ahead in time and how frequent, he didn't say.
True Blood Season 7 picks up where the finale left off: six months after Bill's mission to save the vampire race turned into a Hep V outbreak. Infected vampires are on the loose hunting humans at will. Uninfected vampires like Bill and Jessica are offering humans protection in return for their uninfected blood. The Hep V vampires are sub-species in terms of strength but greater in numbers.
True Blood Season 7 is set to premiere June 2014 on HBO.
