'Toy Story 4' Release Date News: Fourth Movie in Series Set to Launch in 2017
Disney recently announced the upcoming addition to the 'Toy Story' franchise and its release date. 'Toy Story 4' is set to hit the big screen on June 16, 2017, and will be directed by John Lasseter.
Chairman and CEO of Disney, Bob Iger personally said that "the flicks starring Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Mr. Potato Head aren't finished [yet]" which is contrary to the idea that there would be no more 'Toy Story' films.
While many thought that since 'Toy Story 3' "wrapped up the trilogy with an emotional ending" in 2010, there would be no more films. However, that is not case as 'Toy Story 4' has been officially confirmed.
According to D23, Director John Lasseter, who made the first 'Toy Story' movie, will return to direct 'Toy Story 4' and it will be written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack.
According to Lasseter, in an interview with LA Times, 'Toy Story 4' will be focusing on a love story. However, it has not been revealed who will be falling in love with whom.
He also announced that 'Toy Story 4' will be continuing from 'Toy Story 3' which means that all of Andy's toys (Woody and friends) will be living with Bonnie and her toys.
Beyond that, some fans say that a fourth movie is not necessary since the trilogy was perfect and that the new movie is nothing more than an "artless cash grab."
However, Lasseter has reassured fans that the fourth installment stems from pure passion and nothing more, "We only make sequels when we have a story that's as good as or better than the original."
