Top Gun 2 Movie Release Date, Latest News: Tom Cruise Excited Movie Getting the Green Light
Nearly three decades since the 1986 film Top Gun hit the box office and fans are still buzzing about a rumored sequel. While there is no exact date or confirmation for a Top Gun 2, movie producer Jerry Bruckheimer has some exciting news to report on the matter, and it's fair to say fans can expect the movie sometime in the coming few years, with the main hurdle trying to juggle filming with Tom Cruise's busy schedule.
"We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer," Bruckheimer said to TheHuffington Post.
Believing that the film is worth all the extra effort, Bruckheimer has been pushing to get started with its production.
"It's just getting to the starting place. Fortunately for Tom, he's very busy, so you have to find a slot he can fit into and get a budget that Paramount feels they can make the picture," said Bruckheimer.
This does not come as a problem to lead actor Tom Cruise who played, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a talented, loose-cannon US Navy pilot training at an elite centre in San Diego.
"It's a movie form I love making... so I'll keep going. I'll be 80 and playing (Mission: Impossible's) Ethan Hunt if I can," Cruise stated.
Bruckheimer shined light on the reason for Top Gun 2's 30 year delay.
"For a while it was, Tom was excited about it, but the studio didn't want to commit, or the studio was excited and Tom didn't want to do it. And that's been going on for 30 years. And now we're at a point where the studio is excited and Tom is excited," Bruckheimer said to IndieWire.
The most awaited film will break the norms of aviation according to Bruckheimer.
"The concept is, basically: are the pilots obsolete because of drones. Cruise is going to show them that they're not obsolete. They're here to stay," Bruckheimer told the Huffington Post.
Right now the producer says that the movie is a definite go, "We're at a point right now where everybody wants to make it," said Bruckheimer, according to IndieWire.
