Tony Stewart Crash: Video Shows Kevin Ward Jr. and NASCAR Driver’s Tragic Accident

Sprint car driver Kevin Ward Jr. has become the victim of a horrific and tragic accident as he was hit by NASCAR driver, and three-time stock car champion, Tony Stewart during a dirt-track race at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York on Saturday night.

A video was posted on Youtube that shows the accident in its entirety, and can be watched below (Discretion Advised).

In the video, Stewart runs Ward off the track and forces his car to spin-out by the retaining wall. After that, Ward is seen stepping out of his car during the race and angrily pointing at Stewart for his infraction. Tragically, as Ward Jr. gestures to Stewart, he collides with Ward, sending his body flying back towards the retaining wall.

Kevin Ward Jr. was soon pronounced dead, as the race was cancelled immediately and is now the subject of a criminal investigation. Stewart was scheduled to compete in another race Sunday, but Regan Smith said that he will not be participating.

The Ontario County Sheriff's department is investigating the crash. As of now there are no criminal charges pending at this time. On Sunday, Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero said criminal charges have not been ruled out, but that investigators also don't have any evidence at this point in the investigation to support criminal intent.

The authorities described Stewart as "visibly shaken" following the crash and said he was cooperative.

Meanwhile, Stewart has broken his silence. He issued a statement on Sunday expressing his condolences to Ward Jr. family.

The statement read, "There aren't words to describe the sadness I feel about the accident that took the life of Kevin Ward Jr. It's a very emotional time for all involved, and it is the reason I've decided not to participate in today's race at Watkins Glen. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone affected by this tragedy."
