Tomb Raider Definitive Edition Upgrade Discount Not an Option for Next-Gen Gamers (VIDEO)

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, the next-gen version of the newest game, will not be getting an upgrade discount according to game publisher Square Enix.

"Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is not participating in an upgrade program. The game will retail for $59.99 in North America. Check with your local retailer for price points across Europe," read an FAQ on the Tomb Raider site.

In addition to this, Square Enix also said old save files of the previous game will not be compatible with the new game, so all achievements, unlockables, and bonus content will have to start from scratch if a gamer decides to go next-gen. However, according to Polygon, the Definitive Edition will feature new content as well as a redesigned Lara Croft, native 1080p resolution, and support from Vita Remote Play and the Kinect.

The game is slated for a Jan. 28 release in North America and Jan. 31 in Europe according to its announcement at VGX 2013. The original version of the game was released on March 5 of 2013 for the Xbox 360, PS3, MAC, and PC.

The original Tomb Raider game for the PSOne in 1996 is now available for mobile devices in the New Zealand App Store, and North America.

For only 99¢ the game that started it all for Laura Croft can be downloaded to anything that has iOS 7.0 or greater.

"We're going back to where it all began for one of the most famous video game characters of all time - Lara Croft - with the release of her very first adventure!" reads the description in iTunes. "We've not messed about with it, so it's the full, unedited, unadulterated experience from the classic release at a super-low price. How better to find out if you've still got what it takes to beat a legendary game than by taking on the lost city of Atlantis and the pyramids of Egypt? It's probably not for the faint of heart!"

The game was previously made by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive when it began in 1996 up until the mid-2000s. Crystal Dynamics rebooted the entire series, change Laura craft's look, and put her back in time to before she became the rough and tumbled Tomb Raider.

There are nine games since its inception over the course of around 20 platforms.
