Tim Tebow to Start at Tight End for New England Patriots with Hernandez Out and Gronkowski Hurt?

Tim Tebow was without a team a month ago and some were unsure he would ever wear an NFL jersey again.

Then out of the blue, the Patriots signed Tebow, just a week after their coach Bill Belichick was asked if he "hated" Tebow as a player.

Belichick had always seemd to have an interest in Tebow ever since the 2010 Draft where the Patriots were reportedly thinking of taking Tebow if he was still available when their pick came.

Tebow actually got drafted by the Denver Broncos with Josh McDaniels as the coach who ironically now is the offensive coordinator with the Patriots.

McDaniels got fired and never got a chance to work with Tebow and see what he could do in the NFL, so this will give them a second chance to work together.

The obvious big difference in the equation this time is that Tom Brady stands in the way of Tim Tebow starting a game at quarterback with the Patriots. Many think Tebow will not even be the back up quarterback because that role will go to Ryan Mallett.

Tebow has always stood firm that he was a quarterback and wants to focus on playing that position only. However, not much has been said on how the Patriots are going to use them or if Tebow has softened that stance since coming to New England.

Simply going out on a limb, maybe the Patriots already had suspicion that Hernandez was on his way out (of course probably not on murder charges) and that their other big tight end Gronkowski has had several surgeries and might be an injury concern this year.

This is all just fun speculation as a Tebow fan being optimistic that he could see the field this year. Of course I would love to see him, in the end, be able to play quarterback in the NFL again, but this won't happen as long as Brady is healthy.

So could Tebow even make the switch to tight end in the NFL? The experts and ex-NFL players seem split on this.

Some say that he is big enough and versatile enough to make the switch. Others think there is no chance he could make the switch and it is insulting to NFL tight ends who have spent their whole lives mastering the position.

The truth is that no one really knows until he would try it, at least in practice and see what happens.

If Tebow at tight end is anything like Tebow at quarterback though, he is a terrible practice player. That is no surprise and the main reason why he has such trouble getting on the field in the first place. He is simply a "gamer" and somehow rises to the occasion when the game time pressure is on.

He was set up in Denver to be thrown out there and fail to the fans would see what the coaches had seen in training camp and practice but Tebow kept making the impossible happen week after week.

Could he do this again in New England at a new position? Would he even want to if they asked him?

We do not have answers to that right now, but it is a fun debate to have.

What do you think? Could he play tight end for the Patriots?
