Tim Tebow News: Fake Tebow Twitter Account Causes Michael Sam Controversy (VIDEO)

A fake Tim Tebow account has started a controversy with a tweet regarding Michael Sam coming out of the closet a few days ago.

"Tim Tebow: 'I'm a Christian.' 'Media: Keep it to yourself.' 'Michael Sam: 'I'm gay.' 'Media: 'This man's a hero,'" wrote the fake Tebow imposter via Twitter on Febuary 10.

Sam is a Missouri Tigers defensive lineman who just revealed that he is gay prior to the 2014 NFL Draft. Sam is currently featured on the cover of the latest edition of Sports Illustrated.

"I am an openly, proud gay man," said Sam in a recent ESPN interview. "I understand how big this is. It's a big deal. No one has done this before. And it's kind of a nervous process, but I know what I want to be... I want to be a football player in the NFL."

Sam led the SEC with 10.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss last year, and aided Missouri to the SEC Championship game and a victory in the Cotton Bowl. Sam was chosen as the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

The NFL released the following statement this week.

"We admire Michael Sam's honesty and courage," said the league office in a report. "Michael is a football player. Any player with ability and determination can succeed in the NFL. We look forward to welcoming and supporting Michael Sam in 2014."

The phony Tebow Twitter account has over 35,000 followers. In addition, the tweet has over 3,200 favorites and more than 5,000 retweets.

The real Tebow has made no remarks regarding the issue of someone impersonating on him on Twitter as of yet.
