It looks like the next EA Sports golf game you buy won't be called Tiger Woods 15. Eric Fisher from the Sports Business Journal tweeted, "EA discontinuing relationship with Tiger Woods after 15+ yrs. Company now working on next-gen golf title without him."

Rumors have it that EA Sports initiated the change instead of Tiger Woods. It is weird that EA would want to drop Tiger now instead of when he went through that public cheating embarrassment a few years ago. Tiger has yet to comment on the loss of this sponsorship.

The real question here is who will EA Sports choose to lead their flagship golf game? Some critics speculate that Rory McIlroy will be the chosen one due to his high profile lifestyle and constant media attention.

The relationship between Electronic Arts and Tiger Woods has yielded the golfer more than half a billion dollars and has made his brand as an athlete untouchable. EA stayed with Woods through his adultery scandal in 2009 along with Nike and Netjets when everyone else deserted him. He lost sponsorships from Gatorade, Gillette, AT&T, and more.

So why did EA decide to jettison Woods now after he has made somewhat of a comeback in the golf world and in public opinion? It seems that EA fears that Woods has lost his marketability. The video game only sold 300,000 copies this year as opposed to the 3.39 million it sold in 2008.

Woods' agent has claimed that he is looking for more video game placement for Tiger.
