'The Witcher' Movie Release Date: Launch Confirmed - Video Game Series, Fantasy Novels Film In the Works
Fans of the popular 'Witcher' fantasy novels and players of the 'The Witcher' video game series, will be excited to learn that a movie adaptation is in the works. Recently, Oscar-nominated director and animator Tomasz Baginski announced that he is working on a 'Witcher' film.
News broke after the upcoming film was mentioned on the Polish Film Institute (PISF) website. After that, Baginski, of Platige Image studio, confirmed the information over Facebook.
Additionally, Platige Image has mentioned that actual actors will be involved in the film, which leaves fans wondering how much of the project will be done using CGI. The studio has not yet stated how much of the forthcoming film will be drawn up by the use of computers.
Director Tomasz Baginski, won an Oscar in 2003 for his short animated film, 'The Cathedral', also he created the cinematic introductions for the first two 'The Witcher' PC games.
Beyond that, the studio he works with, Platige Image, is known for their special effects work in major Polish productions. They're known for their work on Andrzej Wajda's 'Katyn' (2007), Lars von Trier's 'Antichrist' (2009), and Jerzy Skolimowski's 'Essential Killing' (2010).
While there is no release date speculated as of yet for the upcoming 'The Witcher' film, but a live-action Polish movie based on Andrzej Sapkowski's 'Witcher' novels has already been released.
'The Hexer' launched in 2001, but did not receive positive reviews in the slightest. The film was such a flop that Sapkowski himself discredited it.
On a side note, the new addition to the video game series, 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt', launches February 24, 2015.
