Fans of The Walking Dead just cannot wait for the first trailer from the sixth season of the series to be released next week.

However, there is something that may satisfy their hunger until then. The first few images from the new season of the popular AMC zombie drama has been released and it shows some of the most beloved characters in the show in a heated confrontation.

The three still released for the movie feature Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus, Glenn Rhee, portrayed by Steven Yuen, and Maggie Greene, who is played by Lauren Cohan.

All three of the characters appear to have some kind of weapon in their possession. Glenn is seen with a nasty red cut on his left cheek, and is pointing a gun at someone or something, but what exactly he is defending himself against is not revealed.

Maggie takes a similar position, which hints that there is going to be a lot of danger in store this season as the fight against the zombies continue.

The trailer or the new season of The Walking Dead will premiere next week at the annual Comic Con in San Diego before the series begins again this fall.

The series has been running since 2010 and it follows sheriff deputy Rick Grimes who is played by Andrew Lincoln, in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse in Atlanta.

The show is based on the comic book series of the same name, which was created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard.

The program has been a success with critics, and has received Golden Globe and Writers Guild award nominations.
