'The Vampire Diaries' returns on Thursday in a brand new episode where it appears Elena Gilbert and her on-again-off-again boyfriend Stefan Salvatore's relationship gets stronger while Damon and Bonnie attempt to return home to Mystic Falls.

"When Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) realize that uncovering a time in Damon's past may provide clues to finding their way home, Damon is forced to relive one of the worst days of his life. After an awkward run-in with Jo (guest star Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) at the hospital, Alaric (Matt Davis) steps in to help Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) get his life together and cope with the loss of Bonnie," according to the official summary on the upcoming "Black Hole Sun" episode.

"Elsewhere, Stefan (Paul Wesley) attempts to show Elena (Nina Dobrev) what it's like to start over and create a new identity, while an unsuspecting Matt (Zach Roerig) finds himself in a disturbing situation when Tripp (guest star Colin Ferguson) lets him in on a dark secret. Lastly, Stefan, who is desperate to regain some normalcy in his life, is stunned when an unexpected visitor shows up."

In the latest episode, Stefan will propose marriage to Elena after he tries to start a new life in Georgia after the Travelers cast a spell (last season) that bans vampires from going to fictional town in Virginia.

However, when Damon eventually returns to the present time (after he time travels in order to find a clue that will enable him and Bonnie to return), he will soon realize that his ex-girlfriend has re-ignited her relationship with his brother Stefan.

In last week's episode titled "Welcome to Paradise," a grief-stricken Elena demanded Alaric to remove her memories regarding her previous romantic relationship with Damon.
