Fans should expect something very different for the sixth season of 'The Vampire Diaries' since Damon, who supposedly died last season, is actually alive and well, as Ian Somerhalder revealed in a new Instagram photo of his character.

It is hard to believe that the series is already in its sixth season, as it has not been long since Damon and Stefan were at each other's throats fighting over various issues in the series.

As a recap for the last season, Damon, together with Bonnie (Kat Graham), sacrificed their lives for their loved ones during the Season 5 finale. Fans are still speculating on whether they are going to create a new dimension for Damon's character to live in for the next season.

Luckily, Somerhalder released an Instagram photo last Sept. 5 that teases information about the upcoming season.

"Wow, it's started!" Ian wrote in his Instagram message, "This is a screen shot, I'll probably get in trouble for it;) from the 1st episode. Hmmm, who am I talking to??? Here I am, doing some post production work on Season 6 of 'The Vampire Diaries' with our INCREDIBLE post-production team. With this teaser, fans can watch out for the premiere of Season 6 on October 2 at 8:00 pm EST on CW.
