‘The Strain’ Season 2 Renewed or Canceled? Plot Spoilers, Premiere Date in Summer 2015

The new and popular horror drama series, 'The Strain', will return for a second deadly season in the summer of 2015. FX Networks and FX Productions CEO John Landgraf expressed his excitement about the upcoming series installment and entrusts writer Guillermo del Toro and screenwriter Carlton Cuse to run the show.

"It is thrilling when you have a show that is a creative and commercial heat, which is a rare accomplishment in this increasingly crowded marketplace," Landgraf stated.

Season 1 of 'The Strain' ended with a bang, as it reportedly grabbed a whopping 2.091 million viewers on Sunday, Oct. 5 during the final episode, which led the series to be named as the top drama on cable on Sunday night.

"We look forward having it on FX for as long as Carlton, Guillermo, and Chuck Hogan need to tell this epic tale," he added.

Executive producer and writer Guillermo del Toro shared about why he chose vampires as the antagonists on the show.

"The idea of vampires being a predatory species means that they would be ruthless. That's why, in the opening of the series, I showed a vampire drink a human like you would drink juice, and then dispose of the human like you would dispose of that juice. He doesn't turn anyone or give them immortal life," the 49-year old writer and director stated.

"After you finish drinking a little box of juice, you crush it. So, I wanted to see the vampire crush him and just leave," the highly-acclaimed director added.

Del Toro also revealed that 'The Strain' will run for three to five seasons.

'The Strain' is based on Chuck Hogan and Guillermo del Toro's novels. The story revolves around an evil strain of virus that causes humans to turn into vampires, and the epic battle of man versus vampire for survival.

'The Strain' will reportedly air on July 13, 2015.
