The Revenant Movie Release Date, Spoilers: Alejandro González Iñárritu Rescheduled for 2015 Christmas Release

Fan anticipation about Alejandro González Iñárritu's The Revenant will be put to the test as the film has been given a new release following difficulty in raising funds. Previously big production houses namely Worldview Entertainment and 20th Century Fox have backed out in providing financial assistance.

Fortunately, Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures has vowed on financing the production prompting its new limited premiere date on December 25, 2015. The film will be shown on cinemas worldwide on January 8, 2016, according to Box Office Mojo.

The film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, and Will Poulter, tackles the story of a fur trapper who was beaten by a grizzly bear and then robbed by opportunists. When he survived the incident, he sets out on his own journey seeking vengeance. The movie is set in the 19th century and is based on Michael Punke's novel, The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge.

Given the plot, Iñárritu is expecting to shoot 80 long days that is scheduled to start on October 2014 and lead to March 2015, it will be shot primarily in British Columbia and Alberta. The duration of the filming corresponds to the director's preference to take everything in sequence. Another $7 million was added to the production budget, according to the latest reports.

The Revenant will be shown back to back with other anticipated blockbuster movies such as Mission Impossible 5 starring Tom Cruise and Rebecca Ferguson, and Joy which is directed by David O'Russell. Following the film's schedule, it is expected that The Revenant will not be able to make it to the Cannes Film Festival, but will join Iñárritu's Birdman in the Venice Film Festival.
