‘The Purge: Anarchy’ Spoilers: New Characters, Plot Rumors Revealed
The sequel to last summer's "The Purge' sees the return of writer/director/producer James DeMonaco to craft the next horrifying chapter of dutiful citizens preparing for their country's annual 12-hours of anarchy.
Also returning with DeMonaco to produce the film are Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity and Insidious series) and Sebastien K. Lemercier (Assault on Precinct 13, Four Lovers), along with Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay (Pain & Gain, Transformers franchise), Brad Fuller (The Amityville Horror, A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Andrew Form (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th).
The film, entitled "The Purge: Anarchy' continues the first film's story about a society where crime is at an all-time low and the economy is doing well, but for 12 hours of a single night each year there are no rules whatsoever. The wealthy reinforce the hatches of their state of the art security systems while everyone else is left to fend for themselves as best as they can in the midst of a free-for-all theft and murder spree, with no repercussions and no emergency services or law enforcement around to help.
In the first film, the story is centered on an upper class family who find their home under siege after offering sanctuary to a victim of the mayhem happening outside their gates. In the sequel, there will be no expensive homes to wreck, just all-out chaos with nowhere safe to hide.
"The Purge: Anarchy' will feature new characters and will take place in a city where nobody has a working security system. During the night of the Purge, the city is transformed into a war zone where people either do their best to survive or commit as much legalized crime as possible.
The cast will be led by Frank Grillo (Warrior) with Zach Gilford, Michael K. Williams, Carmen Ejogo and Kiele Sanchez.
"The Purge: Anarchy' will be out in theaters this week on July 18.
