'The Mentalist' Season 6 Spoilers: Rigsby Leaves and Cast Shrinks

Sunday's episode of hit CBS drama "The Mentalist" left fans in shock as two major characters were written off the show. For spoilers about what's to come from the show's cast read on. If you haven't yet seen last night's episode, be warned, this article contains major spoilers.

Rigsby will no longer be a part of "The Mentalist." Owen Yeoman, who plays Rigsby spoke to TV Guide about his departure, and revealed some spoilers about the future of the show.

"We chose both the most satisfying but also the most practical way of ending their characters," Yeoman said of his character being written off the show.

CBS has not yet renewed "The Mentalist" for another season. Yeoman commented on that fact.

"The fact of the matter is that, as we get closer toward a six- or seven-year story arc, there's never a really clear outline of when the show might end. I feel like the writers have a little bit of an impossible task sometimes. They have to be prepared to wrap something up, but also keep the possibility of it going. ... Every single season has been like, this could be the last one! Every time we got a new re-order or a new season, it's always been a bonus," the actor said.

When asked if he thought this season could be the show's final season, Yeoman said it depends on how the story develops.

"We told some great stories and we [explored] some really, really interesting avenues. ... I think it honestly comes down to story. Is there a story to be told and are there people still wanting to hear the stories and watch them? ... I think if the story were to wrap up this year, we resolved the main things that fans wanted. We worked out the Red John story line, to a greater or lesser degree," the actor said.
