'The Leftovers' Renewed For Season 2: HBO Confirms Series Return

Season 2 of the popular HBO series 'The Leftovers' has been confirmed to return to the network and continue its story. The relatively new show has accumulated an impressive fan base, which was originally created by Tom Perrotta, the executive producer of 'Lost'.

The series where millions of humans have mysteriously disappeared off the face of the Earth, is actually based off of a novel of the same name. The event has not yet been officially classified as The Rapture, but many viewers of the show believe that's exactly what's being depicted.

'The Leftovers' is set in a small suburb of New York called Mapleton, and takes place three years after 140 million people suddenly vanished. The first season contains 10 episodes and was initially aired on June 29.

The show stars Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Max and Charlie Carver, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Carrie Coon, Emily Meade, Amanda Warren, and Annie Q.

In regard to the Season 2 renewal, HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo, had this to say, "We are thrilled to bring back 'The Leftovers' for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta,"

Damon Lindelof is the current showrunner of the series, which is produced by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Lombardo went on to mention, "It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain."

As Season 2 stands renewed, fans are still anticipating the Season 1 finale that's set to air on HBO this September 7.
