'The Interview' New Release Date News: Film Available Online via YouTube, Google Play, & Xbox Platforms

Last week, North Korea was allegedly responsible for hacking Sony and issuing threats at American theaters looking to show the new movie, 'The Interview', on the big screen. For those that don't know, the film stars Seth Rogan and James Franco as they supposedly attempt to assassinate the North Korean leader, Kim Jung-Un.

The movie has been a hot topic of debate since the successful hacking stint performed by a group called Guardians of Peace. Ultimately, movie theaters companies including Carmike and Marcus refused to show the movie in their theaters because of the security risks. Many high-profile celebrities became involved in the debate, including George Clooney, who went public about his disappointment with Sony's "surrender."

Even the President of the United States, Barack Obama, got involved, asking Sony to reconsider their position. Sony admitted to looking for alternative methods to the movie theaters through which it could safely show 'The Interview'.

At last, Sony Pictures has confirmed that the film can be rented online through YouTube Movies, Google Play, Xbox Videos, Sony's official site, or the film's dedicated website SeeTheInterview. Also, Netflix is in talks with Sony and could potentially offer it to stream sometime in the near future.

As Google said after talking with Sony, "We could not sit on the sidelines and allow a handful of people to determine the limits of free speech in another country (however silly the content might be)."

Reportedly, Obama made it clear that America should not surrender to dictators. Even so, Apple's iTunes and Sony's own PlayStation Network refuse to market the film through their online platforms.

Right now, the film can be rent for $5.99 for 48 hours and played online, or an HD copy can be purchased for $14.99.
