The Hobbit Part 3 Movie News: Plot Will Center on Lonely Mountain Battle
The third part of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit Trilogy has now been named The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies, and director Peter Jackson, who also directed The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has given some insight into why he decided to change the name from There and Back Again.
"There and Back Again felt like the right name for the second of a two films telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo's arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film. But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced - after all, Bilbo has already arrived 'there' in the Desolation of Smaug," Jackson posted on Facebook.
While Jackson based The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies heavily on the novel, the third movie will now feature LOTR characters like Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Saruman (Christopher Lee) as well as an extended plot for Bard the Bowman, according to ScreenRant.
However, Jackson added that the original title There and Back Again might appear on the film's DVD release after the movie premiere.
The Battle of the Five Armies refers to the climactic battle at the end of The Hobbit in which dwarves, elves, men, goblins and giant eagles fight it out beneath the Lonely Mountain.
Critics are expecting that part 3 of The Hobbit will surpass the first two installments, which had gross earnings of approximately $2 billion across the international box office.
The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies premieres on December 17, 2014 in cinemas worldwide.
